Buy stylish iPod nano skins for your iPod device

Posted by thegeek | Posted in Tech | Posted on 17-11-2009

The music is fine especially when you are hearing it on your iPod nano. But the main problem is that you keep putting it down on rough surfaces. What happens then? A couple of months later you find your stylish, jazzy iPod nano looking definitely scruffy. That is really not cool. Only those with access to easy money can decide to throw the scruffy iPod nano away because it does not look good. But more sensible people will go in for making sure that the iPod nano is protected.
This is where one goes for really stylish iPod nano skins. Apart from iPod nano skins you can get DSI skins and even Wii skins on the Internet. So rather than having your DSI or your WII gathering lots of scratches you can make sure that your high maintenance gadget is going to look good. That can only be done by covering it with the stylish iPod nano skin or WII skin.
These iPod nano skins are made of a really durable material which is going to last for as long as you use your gadget. A Dsi skin or a Wii skin is going to be really easily removable. You just need to buy the skin of your choice. That is of course after you have gone to a place where you can see it physically. You test it against your gadget. Yes it looks good. You ask for its price. Then you go on the Internet and look for places where you can get the same DSI skin or Wii skin at a better price. The quality is going to be the same.
After you have applied for iPod nano skins you do not have to worry for any sort of dents, scratches, smudges or even dings spoiling the good looks of your cell phone. And because these materials are so versatile yet flexible you do not have to restrict yourself to just one skin. Buy a number of skins for your Dsi or your nano. You can change them as often as you want because these iPod nano skins, Wii skins and Dsi skins are easy to apply and remove.
All these different iPod nano skins, Wii skins and DSI skins come in 2 pieces. After applying the front portion over the screen you are going to apply the rear portion over the bezel. There is going to be one seam at the sides which is going to make the gadget skin look as if it is in one piece. Now you do not have to worry about removing your iPod nano from its protective covering whenever you want to use it. Just use it through its protective skin.

White Laptop Reviews

Posted by thegeek | Posted in Tech | Posted on 17-11-2009

Laptop computers are very popular in this day and age; they are very convenient, easily carried wherever you go and can be purchased in a wide variety of colors. For a long time, laptop computers were only available in black. These days you can buy them in pretty much any colour you can imagine. But in this article, I want to focus on white laptop computers. In many people’s opinion, a nice white laptop computer is on the top of their wish list as the best looking ones in the industry.

Many laptops that are called white are not truly white in color. They often, have just a touch of another colour that is barely noticeable, but, when they are placed next to a pure white laptop, the difference is evident and the white one stands out above the one next to it.

Currently, in late 2009, one of the best mid range, white laptops to consider is the Apple MacBook MC240LL/A. This laptop comes complete featuring white hinges and a white keyboard for a complete all white look to it. It’s current processor is a 2.1GHz processor with 160 Gb of storage space. It isn’t cheap (currently around $900) but Apple laptop computers are gaining in popularity and fast becoming a favourite in the industry.

Another white laptop that is good to consider for purchase is the Sony Vaio VGN-NS20E. It is stylish with a white keyboard, and has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz processor with 259 Gb storage capacity. The current price on this one sits around $700 and is great for a mid range buy.

If you do not think you will need as much storage space, a good budget priced Samsung R510 with an Intel Celeron Dual Core T1700 1.83GHz and 160 Gb storage capacity is one to consider. This laptop is predominantly white, but unlike the two above does not come with a white keyboard. Depending on your preferences, this may not be enough white for you. The current price, though, sits around $550, making it one of the best buys on the market. If price is an issue for you, this one is definitely one to consider.

If you are looking for the best white laptop computer on the market, checking out the Apple MacBook Pro should be on the top of your priority list. The current price on this laptop sits at around $2000. It comes with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz processor and 320 Gb storage. It is a great buy for a professional who is looking for a white laptop that is at the top of functionality, as well as good looking.

Before you purchase a laptop, make sure you consider the Toshiba Satellite T135 Series with 1.3GHz Intel Pentium Ultra Low Voltage SU2700 Processor and 250 Gb of storage. Has a very reasonable price tag of around $620 should definitely be considered.

There are countless varieties of white laptop computers to choose from in this day and age. A little bit of research should help you find one that is suitable for both your budget and functional needs. Take a look around all the stores as well as the internet for the perfect white laptop to meet your needs.

3G Versus 4G for Refurbished and Used Cell Phones

Posted by thegeek | Posted in Tech | Posted on 17-11-2009

Refurbished and Used Cell Phones are capable of 3G and 4G speeds while costing less than comparable technology that’s come straight from the factory. Refurbished BlackBerry Cell Phones are very inexpensive compared to their brand-new counterparts, even though they run on the latest technologies like 3G and 4G.

About 85% of the world’s cellular phone users are running on either 2G or 3G technology. Though considered relatively slow, with limited data rates, 2G is preferred by over 70% of the cellular network market.

In the last few years, new networking technologies are being developed to offer faster data transfer in competitive rates and a wider bandwidth – such as 3G. 3G offers up to 2Mbps data transfer speed, but practically speaking its max speed is closer to 400kbps. Three quarters of cell phone users still prefer 2G over the new networking technology. That might change soon.

HP and a Japanese development company, NTT DoCoMo, are developing a new technology, 4G. It is estimated that 4G technology will be launched in Japan in the next 6 years. There aren’t enough details about this new technology so we can’t really compare it to anything we have now, but it looks like it’s going to be a lot faster, using wider bandwidth, and cheaper – or in one word: BETTER.

Whad we DO know about 4G is that with 4G, we will be able to make a video conference call – 3 or more callers – and video will be transferred a lot smoother, thanks to the wider bandwidth. Those devices will have wireless internet in bandwidths wider than that used by 2G technologies, never before seen in a mobile phone – 100MHz; which will also cut costs on large data transfers, and will make video and music downloads cheaper. New security features will help better protect users from theft and fraud, and network security will get much tighter.

Data transfer speed reaches new levels with the new technology: up to 1Gbps (!). Some features that were supposed to be included with 4G seem as if they were taken from a sci-fi movie about the future. Researchers are working on features that would allow the cell phone user to know the direction from which the call is coming and how far away the caller is. Also, we will be able to speak using our other senses as well, or without having to use our vocal cords at all. These features will probably not be ready in time for the launching of 4G, but developers promise “they’ll come in time for 5G.”

Meanwhile, until we get 4G technology in the United States, we will soon have a kind of in-between technology dubbed super 3G. There’s not much information about this technology, besides that it is planned to have a high speed data transfer of up to 100Mbps.

Restaurant Surveillance Application

When choosing the right IP network video surveillance products for installation in a restaurant environment there are key aspects of the environment that must be considered. Most restaurants are setup with dimly light pod lighting or reduced lighting. There also tends to be many obstacles in place within a restaurant such as tables, chairs, section separators or dividing walls, to even customers themselves who are moving in and out at usually a constant frequency during peak hours. A restaurant environment may also feature multiple levels, multiple exits or long hallway corridors. All of these factors must be considered when preparing for installation of an IP network video surveillance system so that the installed surveillance system is capable of providing a secure environment for customers, staff as well as for the restaurant proprietors.

Lighting Many restaurants feature dimly lit areas or adjust lighting levels for different times of the day. Due to this type of environment it is wise to consider an IP camera that is capable of functioning not only in low light environments but must also hold the ability to easily and quickly adapt to any lighting changes that are made. An IP camera featuring Day/Night capabilities will allow for such capabilities. A Day/Night IP camera will automatically adjust to changing lighting conditions and if found to also encompass an Auto-Iris lens, will adjust to the changing lighting conditions of the sun. IP cameras with an Auto-Iris lens are most effective if the IP camera is near a window or placed outside. If the environment stays at a dimly lit level at all times then an IP camera without Day/Night support but with low light capabilities may also suffice. Low light capable IP cameras may also be referred to as having a “Low Lux” rating.

Camera Positioning It is important to note where the cameras are to be installed. All restaurants feature obstructions that make effective video surveillance sometimes next to impossible if the camera was not installed in the right location. Considerations should be made for what the IP camera should be able to see at all times including when the area is populated with customers or staff. Considerations should also be made for any entrance or exit points that must be monitored. If these locations are important areas then it may be wise to consider more than one IP camera so that both people entering or exiting the building may have their face seen on camera as opposed to the side or rear of their head. It is always easier to identify a person by their face then by the back of their head. Pan, tilt and zoom IP cameras may be considered if you wish to widen the area of view for a single camera or have the ability to zoom in on objects from afar. However, it should be noted that with a PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) IP camera, what you see is what you get. Caution must be used to prevent the PTZ IP camera from being left in the wrong position.

Adobe Acrobat Could Stand to Shed a Few Pounds

Posted by thegeek | Posted in Tech | Posted on 17-11-2009

When you are the standard, it is common to become comfortable, the popularity of your product trumping the necessity to introduce changes that are more than just negligible. However, popularity is frequently the result of the familiarity of your product taking priority over its reliability. In every industry, customers exhibit their tendency to stay with the standard out of habit, ignoring blatant flaws that become allowable in the face of the unknown.

One such example is Acrobat Reader, the de facto software used to read .PDF files. PDF ( Portable Document Format ) is the file format made by Adobe Systems for the exchange of documents. Independent of the common variables that are attendant to the compatibility of a file format ( software, hardware, and operating system ), PDF files are self-contained documents of a two-dimensional nature. Until just recently, Acrobat Reader – also created by Adobe Systems – was the the only application that one could use to view a PDF file. Slightly over a year ago, Adobe released the format as an open format, giving the opportunity to read the file with alternative solutions.

Acrobat Reader, like all favored applications that have the already mentioned complacency, has seen its evolution stunted by a scarcity of attention given to performance. Though primarily used for just viewing files, its bloat is obvious, the application consuming roughly 30MB of space. While Acrobat Reader has features that still haven’t been adopted by competing software, there are a number of possible choices that offer its core functionality without the surplus baggage.

One option is Evince. Evince is notable for its simplicity, its name accompanied by a tagline that reads, “Simply a document viewer.” That is precisely what Evince is, its modest interface underscored by the speed that you’d naturally associate with what is nothing more than a document viewer. A neat addition to Evince is its “Presentation Mode,” which handles a PDF as though it is a slideshow. In this mode, each page is treated as a slide. Originally written for use with Linux, there’s a Windows version that offers the same features.

Another great alternative is SumatraPDF. For those that simply need to view and print PDF files, SumatraPDF does so without any of the lag one notices when using Acrobat Reader. While plain in appearance, not unlike Evince, its functionality is easy to glean from the simply navigable interface. With just a few buttons, you can take advantage of this tool for the functions that are most utilized by those viewing a PDF : open, page-jump, search. Though its functionality is restricted to just the core jobs we associate with Acrobat Reader, it moves at an impressive speed, with a minimalistic design that spares you the needless trimmings.

Lastly, there’s Foxit Reader, an alternative that offers equivalent features without the excesses of Acrobat Reader. Free and available for Windows, Foxit Reader is regarded by many to be the most gratifying choice for those who have sought a usable substitute for Acrobat Reader. One reason for its popularity is the impressive feature set : e-mail the PDF while viewing it, highlight part of the screen and save it as an image, and convert the PDF to text. Those features come with the free version, without any mention of what’s included should you get the Foxit Reader Pro Pack. The main feature of the Pro Pack is the ability to edit your PDF files.

In the case of Acrobat Reader, this is but one of the many examples where you’ll find that the most popular software isn’t always the most practical answer. Acrobat Reader is definitely no slouch, coming from the company that invented the PDF standard, but there’s no way to deny that it can stand to lose much of the weight that slows the current version down. Till that’s done, the choices discussed above should be more than sufficient to fulfill your needs where viewing PDF files are concerned.

Software like Adobe Acrobat Reader are but one of many areas of concern when thinking about your PC’s performance. There are many more applications and settings that can be optimized. Google Voice Pushes Telecommunications Forward

Posted by thegeek | Posted in Tech | Posted on 17-11-2009

A famous pioneer in web technology, creating the hottest search website in use today, Google stands at the front line of corporations pushing towards a future that is inextricably tied to the fast evolving sector of the internet.

With some of the most brilliant minds at work under their roof, the services resulting from their ingenuity have essentially changed how we communicate with each other. From Gmail to Google Wave, to competition that desperately plays “catch up,” proof of this company’s forward-thinking creativity abounds.

One of their more engaging services is Google Voice, a telecommunications wonder that extends users a unique telephone number from Google, to which any calls to your actual phone – or, if you so choose, multiple phones will be transferred.

How it works :

* User creates ( presuming it isn’t taken ) a new phone number or selects one from a pool of numbers supplied by Google.
* Once the Google Voice number has been chosen, inbound calls to that number will be forwarded to the assigned phone numbers.

As an example, take the following scenario as testament to the convenience afforded by Google Voice :

While in the kitchen fixing dinner, you’re waiting for a call from your brother about your sister-in-law’s pregnancy, knowing that she is’s due any minute. Your cell phone, which is your primary means of communication, is upstairs. Yet, your home is also equipped with a land line, with one phone located merely a foot away from the kitchen counter. Without knowing if you are home or not, your brother excitedly dials your Google Voice number, leading to his call being forward to each phone assigned to it – including your land line.

With configuration requiring only a few steps, use of this service is that simple, gathering our varied styles of telecommunication under the umbrella of Google Voice.

Additional features include :

* Voicemail
* Call History
* Conference Calling
* Call Blocking
* Voice transcription ( translating your voice mail into texts )
* Call transitioning, which permits you to migrate from one phone to next in the middle of a call.

Google now permits you to use your existing phone number with Google Voice, a feature that was only just announced. Your current number may be employed together with a new Google Voice number. To read more about this new feature, visit the Google Voice website ( you can google it. )
