Biggest advantage to making your own You

Posted by thegeek | Posted in Tech | Posted on 05-11-2009

If you are not yet a fan of You Tube, you will be if you enjoy watching free videos online, from a number of different genres. And, you might get the bug to do your own video and post it for the world to see. Here are some tips that will help you decide if you should do it.

Now, you may already may be a huge fan of You Tube. You may be among millions of Internet users who only watch videos on You Tube or you may be among the many millions who also post their own videos on the site.

If you have never created a video clip for You Tube, you may be wondering whether or not you really should. Consider just what it may mean to you, especially if you are into Internet marketing. It could mean loads of traffic to your website or blog from just one well-produced video.

Perhaps, the biggest advantage to making your own You Tube videos is that the content of your videos can be just about whatever you want it to be. Popular videos on You Tube right now include comedy skits, video blogs, how-to videos, and music videos from up and coming artists. Personally, I love the free slide blues guitar lessons and some of the news related clips. Whether you want to make a video blog of yourself or if you and your friends want to just have fun with a video camera, you can put it out there for the world to see and comment on and it’s all free.

Of course, when making a video you need to use good judgment. Although You Tube accepts videos on a wide variety of different subjects, you will want to proceed with caution. You should always be cautious of online predators; therefore, you will want to be careful about divulging too much information about yourself or your family.

You might not necessarily think about it, but you also want to make sure that you don’t record and post anything illegal on the site. It has been said that You Tube regularly works with law enforcement to help solve crimes. This includes copyright infringement. That just goes to show that you never really know who is watching your videos or what the consequences for posting them might be.

It’s relatively easy to make your own videos. Of course, you will need to have a video recording device. There are a number of different recording devices that you can use. For instance, many cell phones now come equipped with video recording capabilities. In addition to cell phones, you can use traditional camcorders, digital cameras, and web cams. For the best quality video, you will want to have a movie editing software program. Movie editing software programs will not only give you the ability to preview your videos, before uploading them to You Tube, and edit them if you would like to remove or add something to the finished version.

Once you have made your video and uploaded it onto your computer, you will find that getting your video uploaded to You Tube’s website is just as easy. In fact, that is another one of the many advantages to making your own videos. Just like actually making the video itself, uploading your video is as easy as it can be. The uploading learning curve is so easy that you will likely make more videos to upload and share with the worldwide Internet community in no time at all.

Another benefit of making your own videos and uploading them comes after the fact. After your videos are available for viewing, anyone with an internet connection can visit the You Tube website to view your videos. This means that just one of you videos may be seen by thousands of people from anywhere in the world that has Internet access! In fact, if those viewers are registered members of the site they can rate your videos, leave comments, and forward your video to their friends. They may even use your video on their website or blog.

Viewer comments will be both positive and negative. Sometimes, even negative feedback will cause even more people to watch your video to see why people are leaving negative comments. Such feedback creates “buzz and can be taken into consideration if and when you choose to make any more videos.

As you can see, there are a number of advantages to making your own videos to share on You Tube. Remember, there are also a number of disadvantages as well, including safety.

On balance, as long as you display caution when making and posting your video or when talking with other You Tube members, your video experience should be a positive one.
